Park Road Bridge
Iowa City, Iowa
Project Description
The 250' thru-arch-bridge is part of the larger Iowa City Gateway Project. The Gateway project raises the existing road 10 ft' along Dubuque Street and includes the new Park Road Bridge. Dubuque Street carries 25,000 vehicles a day from the interstate to the downtown business district and the University of Iowa Campus and the Park Road Bridge serves as a critical link. The previous road and bridge due to their low elevations have seen extreme flooding and been overtopped multiple times in the past 25 years; three times in the past 10 years. The new Bridge is 1 ft above the 200-year flood level.
